Grandma and Grandpa are here for a few days before Mom and Dad leave on their trip! We have a little backyard party with Christine, Todd, and the Duffs. Emily plays kick the ball in the grass with Grandpa and Nigel. 8/1

Mom and Dad go on our trip! Emily hardly misses us: we talk with her one night and all she wants to know is where the toy fish tank is so she can play with it with Grandma! The girls keep Grandma and Grandpa busy with popsicles on the front step, church on Sunday morning, the zoo with Grandpa's cousins, dinner at the Deli News, visits to the Children's Museum, and gymnastics class. *whew!* 8/2-8

We take Grandma and Grandpa to K'Lei and Maya's house for a backyard water party. Em tries out the water slide but doesn't quite get the knack of falling and sliding--she just runs right off the edge! 8/10

We are watching "Emeril" cook on TV when he says, "Don't touch that dial!" Emily asks, "What dial?" 8/11

Kate from church invited Emily to her 5th birthday party. Emily LOVES the party game they play: a prize is put under a metal pot, then the child who is "it" gets blindfolded and is given a wooden spoon. They crawl around the yard, flailing away with the spoon, trying to bang on the pot and win the prize. All the other kids help out by yelling, "Hotter!" and "Colder!" Em waits and waits patiently for her turn, wins her prize, and announces she wants to play this at HER birthday. 8/14

The Purple Coyotes have an end-of-the-summer skating party before the last of the big kids go on to kindergarten. Christine comes to the rink to sit with Sarah so I can skate with Emily! She has improved since her last time on the ice and likes to push one of the sleds around by herself! 8/15

Em shows Daddy the scratches Pook made in the paint on her wall and said, "This makes me miss Percy." :( 8/16

At bedtime, Emily is a little scared because she remembers the policeman who came to talk to the Royal Raven and Purple Coyote classes about strangers this week. She says she can't stop thinking about "strangers and bad things." When I ask her if she wants me to talk about strangers, she shakes her head. "Maybe when I'm older," she says. 8/16

We go to Olivia's 5th birthday party. (Our 4th party in 8 days!) This is a special treat because there are so many of the "old" Purple Coyote girls there! Emily wears her favorite "flowerpot" dress, has a good time visiting, and really enjoys whacking the pinata. 8/17

Em says, "I'm playing with Alex: she's the red and I'm the blue. And since she's not here, I pick them up!" 8/18

Emily's big girl bed is delivered today! It is a light pine wood with a bookcase headboard and two drawers underneath for her stuffed animals and books. We went to Target and chose purple sheets and butterfly sheets! 8/20

Grammy and Grandpa come for their visit! We have a lazy summer week hanging out with them, but also go to the mall, the Children's Museum, and to the Deli News for breakfast. 8/20-27
