After dinner in a restaurant, Emily decides that she wants a cookie from Mrs. Fields' for dessert, but I remind her that we have popsicles at home. Em is happy because the popsicles "have jokes on the stick!" I say, rhetorically, "And how can you compare a cookie to a popsicle with a joke on the stick?" Emily thinks for just a second, then starts to describe "the cookies with the piece of paper inside" and Bill and I are forced to admit that a fortune in a cookie is very much like a joke on a stick! 6/2

Em sings a song: "Once upon a little town/There lived a baby with a crown."

Sarah, Emily and I go to the Children's Museum with our friends Sophie and her children Arthur and baby Eva. Arthur and Emily have a good time upstairs in the little grocery store and basketball court, where Emily practices her sportscasting with the microphone. As usual, the real highlight of the day is eating lunch at "The Hungry Tummy" cafe! 6/6

We all go to a party at Daddy's boss Jeff's house. We hardly see Em the whole time we are there, since she is so busy playing with Jeff's daughters Anna and Mary up in their rooms and they only occasionally emerge to grab some more snacks from the kitchen. Emily is loves the idea of having a computer in a bedroom like Anna, and is very impressed with Mary's purple inflatable easy chair. 6/7

We say goodbye to Percy this morning. 6/8

Emily wants to know who the flowers are from. I tell her from Amy and John because they were so sad that Percy died. Emily asks, "Did Percy die today?" I said, "No, he died three days ago, remember?" 6/11

We leave on our trip for Aunt Amy's wedding! Emily wants to see all her surprises right away and tries to negotiate: "I'll be a good cooperator if you give me some surprises!" Sorry, Em, it doesn't work that way! 6/11

At our hotel pool in Des Moines, Emily and Daddy have a great time playing with the floating noodles and the beach ball. 6/12

At our hotel in Chicago, Emily asks Grandma with a smile, "Do you have one or two books with you?" 6/13

At Aunt Amy's wedding, Emily was PERFECT as a flower girl. She hesitated just a moment before walking down the aisle--she was around a corner and couldn't see either me ahead of her or Aunt Amy behind her--but once she got started she did GREAT. She sprinkled just the right amount of flowers every step or two, never got worried about her audience, and only stopped once, because the CD of music stopped suddenly! Once the music started again she just kept on going until the end of the aisle, where she gets a little confused because the aisle ran out but her flowers didn't! We told her she was all done and she handed the basket to me and went to sit with Daddy and Sarah. Emily couldn't wait to start dancing and we'd say, "First Amy and John have a special dance, and then Grandpa and Amy have a special dance..." and after each one she'd just say, "NOW can I go dance?" She spent much of the evening dancing with "Big Sarah," a Muehlhausen cousin who was a few years older than she was. Daddy suggested a little break at about 11 pm and Emily was asleep within ten minutes! 6/15

The day after the wedding, Emily plays a fun game with Mrs. Dysart and Mrs. D's little gold bee pin, which she wears on her shoulder. They pretend it's buzzing and get the giggles. 6/16

We drive to Plainfield to spend a few days with Aunt Muffy, Uncle Kevin and Phoebe. Phoebe and Emily have a wonderful time in their swimsuits running through the wading pool and playing in the playhouse. 6/17

We stopped at the Henry Dooley Zoo in Omaha on the way home. We saw some polar bears, and one was swimming laps from the rocks to the observation window and back--he'd surface right at the window! Emily was started the first few times he'd appear, but then she learned to expect it and thought it was fun. 6/20

The day after we get home, we went to the Spring Fling at Emily's preschool. We buy tickets and do some crafts--her favorite is making the Shrinky Dink jewelry. They also have a horse and Emily gets to ride it! She has done this several times now and is an old pro. 6/22

I go to New York for two nights for my friend Greg's wedding, and Em has a great time with Daddy. She has a play date with Sage on Saturday, who is getting ready to move to Utah this summer. 6/28
