Chinese words for Chinese New Year!

Just a drawing Em made at home.
Here's a rattlesnake--you can tell by the bumpy tip of the tail.
Here's a tiger--I like how the stripes change orientation.

Mrs. Cameron, Emily's kindergarten teacher, likes for the kids to use "invented spelling," which is just a fancy way to say "write the letters you think you hear and don't worry if they're right." Em has resisted this because, I think, she has been exposed to enough words and has asked us to spell enough things for her that she knows there is a "right" way and a "wrong" way, and doesn't want to be "wrong." For this piece of homework we finally got her to write her own letters! She had to list 3 items she would place in a kindergarten time capsule. Em wrote:

FODO AV ME 1 = photo of me
DROO A PISHR 2 = draw a picture
NAMS IV FRANS 3 = names of friends
