Em makes me a great birthday card, on which she has very carefully put 37 candles on my cake!!!! They serve me butter chicken, mashed potatoes, and creamed corn! Nobody eats the creamed corn but me! 9/1

The girls and Bill drop me off at the airport for my trip to Chicago to meet Troy! They have a good weekend with Bill, doing soccer, pancakes at a restaurant one night for dinner, and lots of hangout time together. 9/2-5

Em's reading has come a LONG way this summer! At the beginning of the summer I found a sequenced easy reader set for her at the library with 6 levels. She started reading the red, orange, and yellow levels all at once, then moved on to the greens. She is now starting the last set, the purples! Of course she reads pretty slowly and has to sound out all her new words, but her comprehension doesn't seem to suffer. 9/04

At soccer practice Miss Lisa hands out the girls' new hot pink Rock Star jerseys! Last year they played in Tshirts but this year the parents sprung for real jerseys. They say "Rock Stars" on the front and even have a number on the back! Em is #1! 9/9

I walk with the first grade to the public library, where they get a tour and a little storytime and a chance to check out their own book. The librarian who gave us the tour is the same librarian who did Em's storytimes when she was little! During the walk there, Em banged her loose tooth on her water bottle & it started to bleed a little bit. It didn't seem wiggly enough for me to pull it out, though, so I told Em to just leave it be. Of course, 20 minutes later Em came up to me with her tooth in hand and said, "It fell out!" 9/10

Em is a little sad this morning because it looks like the Tooth Fairy couldn't find Em's tooth in the very tiny velvet bag Em put it in last night. OH NO!!!!!! Dad and Em switch the tooth to a see-through Ziploc and put it back under her pillow for tonight. Em is puzzled but philosophical & ready to try again tonight. Mom is more upset than Emily!!! 9/11

BUSY DAY! I go to work and Daddy takes Emily to Emily S's 6th birthday party, where they got to put on their swimsuits and have a water balloon fight! Then it was time for a quick McDonald's lunch before Em's first soccer game, then home for LOTS of quiet time. 9/11

While I'm brushing Sarah's teeth after dinner I send Em into her room to check on her tooth to make sure it's ready for the Tooth Fairy to try again. I hear her let out a whoop and she came charging back out, saying, "The Tooth Fairy came in the DAYTIME!" Must have been while we were all out! (Whew!) 9/11

Em joined me at Sarah's Purple Coyote potluck! 9/27

I spent an hour or so with Emily's class this morning! I got to read one on one with several students during their reading time, Emily included! It was fun and I am hoping to do this every couple of weeks! 9/28

Today after school we walked home with Hunter and Miss Kelly to spend the afternoon and have dinner with them! We played Yahtzee & ran around in the backyard, and talked about how 1st and 2nd grade was going. Miss Kelly was a favorite Purple Coyote teacher of Emily's and we feel very lucky to still be in touch! 9/29

Sarah made me a wonderful card for my birthday; she drew lots of balloons and her own "xs" and "os".

At soccer practice, Sarah tells Claire's mom and dad all about how she gave me kisses in my locket to take with me on my trip. I came home from holding a 10-week old baby to find that MY baby looked ENORMOUS! 9/2-5

Sarah's class is reading "Little Granny Quarterback" and having a great time working on all sorts of football projects. One day the teachers had marked off two "end zones" with masking tape out in the hall, about 10 feet apart. The game was to start at one end, run to the football sitting in the middle, pick it up, and run to the other end zone to score a touchdown! Miss Carrie said Sarah spent a whole 20 minutes out there doing it over and over! 9/7-10

After taking Emily to Emily's party, Daddy and Sarah spend some time together at the Cherry Creek Mall breakfast toys! Then it was off to the soccer game, a golden opportunity to drink lots and lots of juice boxes. 9/11

I am teaching Sarah's preschool Sunday school class this year! When I asked the kids what they thought their friend Theo (a puppy puppet that introduces each week's lesson with various items) brought this week, Sarah pipes up, "A clock and a robe!" since that's what she'd seen me pack up that morning! 9/12

Sarah's new book for school is "When We Go Camping." by Margriet Ruurs. The teachers put a real tent up in the dramatic play area, and the kids are taking turns sleeping in it on their cots at naptime! 9/04

Sarah often chooses poems for one of her bedtime stories. Today she wanted "The Adventures of Isabel" by Ogden Nash, one of our favorites. (It is grisly but we like it anyway!) Sarah likes to chant along: "Isabel, Isabel, didn't worry/ Isabel didn't scream or scurry." 9/25

We have been looking forward to the Purple Coyote family potluck! Today we stayed after school to share dinner with Sarah's friends and their moms and dads. Sarah was proud to bring the chocolate chip cookies she helped me make on Saturday! 9/27

Today after school we walked home with Hunter and Miss Kelly to spend the afternoon and have dinner with them! We played Yahtzee & ran around in the backyard, and Sarah found a little cubby in the kitchen that she liked to hide in! Miss Kelly was a favorite Purple Coyote teacher of Emily's who always liked visiting with Sarah during drop-off and pick-up times! 9/29

Sarah shows me a chart she and Emily have created: it has lots of columns with different faces at the top of each one. Each face/column represents a different mood. They ask me what my mood is, and I say, "What are my choices?" Sarah recites them, pointing to each face: "Happy, happy, happy, happy, mad at your sister, happy!" 9/04
