Emily wraps up her week at day camp. She is pooped but had a great time. She got to play soccer tag, floor hockey, swim, climb the climbing wall, and about a million other activities. Em has turned out to be a very physical girl and LOVES all the challenges! 7/2

Amanda's family invited us to join their 4th of July block party. We brought the girls' bikes since the street was blocked off to cars & Emily LOVED riding on the STREET! We had snacks (lots of Cheetos!) and hot dogs for dinner and Miss Stacie even had an extra swimsuit for Emily to put on when all the kids got started on water balloons. We stayed until it was VERY late! 7/3

"I think the downstairs bathroom should be a 'showerroom' since it doesn't have a bath tub!" 7/4

Emily decorated her bike with streamers all by herself and rode in the neighborhood parade--her first year for riding the entire length of the route. It was pretty hot, so we just stayed for a little while at the party before heading home for some R&R. Liz and Christine joined us in the late afternoon for some backyard time and dinner. We really had no idea what to do about city fireworks so decided not to go at all. Fortunately, the girls didn't think this was as big a problem as Mommy did! 7/4

We are having cookies for a snack and talking about halves and quarters. Em wants another cookie and Bill says, "You can have another one if you can tell me how many quarters are in two cookies." Em thinks for less than a minute and says, "8!" 7/04

The Snydersmiths come for a visit! Emily goes immediately into big-sister mode and loves sitting with Phoebe's 4 month old twin brothers, Will and Simon. She likes to show them rattles and books and bring them blankets and plays peekaboo with them tirelessly. It reminded me how wonderful Em was with Sarah when Sarah was a baby!

One morning Kevin and Bill took the girls to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science; another day all went out to dinner, but mostly we just hung out together and had a good time. 7/5-9

Aunt Susan sends Daddy a lobster dinner for his (belated) birthday present! Em is ALMOST as happy as Daddy. She eats lots of steamers and as much lobster as Daddy will share! She wants to do this again very soon! 7/9

We have dinner at our friends' the Derksons (Jeff was in the DMS program with Bill) & Emily has a good time getting reaquainted with Arthur, who is a year younger than she is, and Eva, his little sister. She runs all over the backyard with him and all four kids spend literally hours riding trikes all over the backyard patio. We stay until it is very late! 7/10

I have been teaching Em how to play "Gin" this week. After a few days she is not satisfied with the 7 card game and wants me to teach her the 10 card version! 7/12

Em has started to say, "Oy!" and "Oy vey!" I say, "Wait till Grandpa Z hears you say that!" 7/04

"Uno is a little like Crazy 8s because you match colors, and a little like Gin because you have to say something." Em actually made a comparison to a third card game, too, but I didn't catch it fast enough to write it down! 7/13

Amanda and Erin come over for the morning so Miss Stacie can get ready for their big summer trip! The girls are so compatible that I hardly noticed having 4 all morning instead of 2! 7/16

The Duffs share with us a fun inside playground they have discovered. It is all inflatable bouncy toys, obstacle courses, climbing areas, and slides. Em climbs up the "volcano" --a 15 ft tall cone with hand- and foot-holds on her second try. We do the obstacle course together and sometimes she beats me! The big hit was the 15 ft tall slide--it was VERY fast! 7/19

I go to an overnight crop and the girls get Daddy to themselves. Christine comes over for awhile to play on Saturday! 7/23-24

The girls come mattress-shopping with us and have a lot of fun climbing up onto all of the beds and laying down with us. 7/27

Em comes along with me on the Purple Coyote field trip to a McDonald's! Emily is impressed when Mr. Soren plays in the big fun toy with all the kids! 7/30

"You know what I wonder? I wonder if Harold has an eraser." (from Harold and the Purple Crayon!) 7/30

Em attends Kaeli's "Princess Unicorn" party and gets to make a magic wand! 7/31

The girls come with me to a goodbye party for Laurie, our teen librarian at work. Lisa hosts the party at her house and has planned a couple of games. One of them has all of us dividing up into teams to try to identify pictures of famous library-related people. Laurie, Emily and I are on a team together, and Laurie is extremely impressed when Emily can name Eric Carle's photo (Laurie couldn't!) Emily was SO tickled when the other teams good-naturedly complained about us having "too much extra help" from Emily. 7/31

Amanda's family invited us to join their 4th of July block party. We brought the girls' bikes since the street was blocked off to cars. Sarah rode her trike a little but liked jumping in the bouncy castle MUCH better! We had snacks (lots of Cheetos!) and hot dogs for dinner. Sarah and Erin had a good time together. We stayed until it was VERY late! 7/3

Sarah decorated her bike with streamers all by herself and rode in the neighborhood parade. She rode the entire route, but had some help pushing from Mommy! It was pretty hot, so we just stayed for a little while at the party. Emily didn't want to be in any of the races, but Sarah did! She tried the sack race and really tried hard to actually jump high enough to move her sack forward! She was happy with her "good sport" ribbon. She also put in a guess for the number of jelly beans in the jar--she guessed 5! Liz and Christine joined us in the late afternoon for some backyard time and dinner. We really had no idea what to do about city fireworks so decided not to go at all. Fortunately, the girls didn't think this was as big a problem as Mommy did! 7/4

The Snydersmiths come for a visit! Sarah enjoys meeing the babies but once she realizes all they did was eat and sit, she kind of lost interest!!

One morning Kevin and Bill took the girls to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science; another day all went out to dinner, but mostly we just hung out together and had a good time. 7/5-9

Aunt Susan sends Daddy a lobster dinner for his (belated) birthday present! Sarah won't touch the steamers or lobster (that's okay--more for us) but goes to town with the corn on the cob. 7/9

We have dinner at our friends' the Derksons (Jeff was in the DMS program with Bill) & Sarah has a good time exploring the "new" toys in Eva's room. All four kids spend literally hours riding trikes all over the backyard patio. We stay until it is very late! 7/10

"Can I have a lunch box when I get old?" 7/13

Sarah and I had a long conversation about being a Mommy, what mommies do, that sort of thing. Then apropos of nothing she says, "And then I'll die." I said, "Oh, but you won't die for a long, long time...not until you're a Mommy and then a Grandma." She thought about this and said, "Do Grandmas die?" I said, "Sometimes." She said, "Then I'll be a Mommy." 7/14

I gave Sarah ONE chickpea and she hid it under her carrots! 7/04

Sarah had a good time and after a couple times down the big (15 ft tall) slide with me, was able to climb up and slide down all by herself! 7/19

I go to an overnight crop and the girls get Daddy to themselves. Christine comes over for awhile to play on Saturday! 7/23-24

The girls came mattress-shopping with us and have a lot of fun climbing up onto all of the beds and laying down with us. After it is delivered, we discover that the new mattress comes up to Sarah's armpits so she has a long way to fall! She has brought a stool into our bedroom to leave at the end of the bed so she can climb in and out! 7/27-29

She is leaping forward verbally and cognitively again--Her sentences are getting longer and not just by adding "ands" to them ("...and then I played with Hayden and then we went outside and I rode the bike...") Last night she asked me if Emily were coming to the Purple Coyote field trip to Mc Donald's and I said, "Yes, Emmy and Mommy are coming with." Then she said, "The reason I asked about my sister is because there will be ketchup there." Sarah doesn't like ketchup but she knows Emily does!!!! 7/29

Today Sarah was looking at a nail clipping while I was trimming her nails and said, "Cool! It looks like a moon!" 7/30

One of Sarah's classmate's family owns a McDonald's and invited the Purple Coyotes to visit on a field trip. We got to wash our hands at the workers' sink, walk into the fridge and find the eggs and the freezer and find the french fries! The kids loved seeing their breath in the freezer! Then they each had a chance to choose their lunch and watch as it got made. 7/30

The girls come with me to a goodbye party for Laurie, our teen librarian at work. Sarah is not fazed at all by being the only kid there (save for Em!) and chats up all the grownups! 7/31
