We are looking at pictures and I say, "That's a crane." Em says, "Like your dad is from Ukrainian?" 6/1

I call for Em and she is right there behind me. She says, "Good thing I wasn't a snake or I'd have bit you!" She says, "Isn't that what your mom says?" 6/1

Emily spends the afternoon with Emily Slotta! 6/2

I am reading Cynthia Rylant's "Lighthouse Family" chapter books to Emily. The writing is beautiful and the vocabulary extraordinary! I am glad Em is enjoying them. 6/2

Em likes to stick one handle of a jump rope down the back of her shorts to make a long tail. 6/04

I came home from work to find Emily and Daddy playing Monopoly--real Monopoly, not Monopoly Jr. I thought, "Oh, how cute, Bill must have figured out a simple way to play for Emily." Then Emily rolls, moves her piece, lands on one of Bill's properties, checks out her money stash, and announces, "I'm going to have to mortgage one of my properties!" I should know not to underestimate Em! 6/3

Emily and I go for a walk at the Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield area. It is very buggy and we abandon our walk near the creek to check out the old ranch buildings, preserved from a turn-of-the-century working ranch. I kept pointing out cool things to Emily, (like the outhouse, and the woodpile for the stove, and how the summer kitchen was separate from the main house) but she already knew all about them from Mrs. Cameron's Colorado history lessons! Em's favorites though were the very big swings and the see-saws! 6/4

Daddy brings the girls to the library for our Summer Reading Kickoff Party! They jump in a bouncy castle, get tattoos, play a few games, and pick up their reading records. Mommy doesn't see them very much! 6/5

"I'm kind of getting to the age where I don't say, 'Mommy.'" 6/6

We spend the morning at the Duffs' for a visit before our trip. 6/7

Emily gets her first haircut in 3 years with Miss Kari! We have been suggesting for months that she might like to trim her straggly hair. Em has not wanted to cut her long hair but finally after many conversations about it with Daddy she agrees. Miss Kari trims about 6 inches off and it looks great. Emily teases Miss Kari: "See you when I'm nine!" 6/7

We leave on our trip for Florida! 6/9

At the Magic Kingdom, Emily LOVES a character show at the castle. She sits on Daddy's shoulders and watches the whole thing, even in the hot sun! She keeps her camera ready and takes some careful shots. Other hits today are the Dumbo ride, meeting Cinderella (a BIG deal, even for our non-"princess" little girl), playing in the squirting water at Mickey's boat, and "racing" with Daddy during the Indy car ride. 6/10

Emily really enjoys our jeep ride at the Animal Kingdom and is very serious about choosing her moments for taking good pictures! 6/11

We have a relaxing week with Grammy and Grandpa. We meet some friends, spend an hour at the pool, visit Silver Springs and ride the glass bottom boats, and go bowling. Emily managed to get the ball to the pins almost every time & was a good sport about when she didn't get the pins knocked over. When Mommy missed, Em would say, "Maybe next time!"

We also drove to a Gulf-side beach one morning and spent some time at a small state park that had manatees. It was hard coming home! 6/18

Emily is a big cousin again! Troy Joshua is born today to Aunt Amy and Uncle John! 6/20

The girls spend Father's Day with their Daddy since I have to work. They have made cards and will give him Eric Carle's new book "Mister Seahorse" as soon as I can find my secret hiding place!! 6/20

Bill takes Em to see the Garfield movie. Em loves the first half, but then wants to leave. The dog Odie is lost and it seems like Em couldn't handle the tension! 6/23

We are working on one of Em's readers, and there is a picture of a cat and a rat, each sitting on a leak in a garden hose. The water from the hose is lifting them up in the air--Em comments on how the mouse is lifted higher because it isn't as heavy as the cat. I tell Em "That's good figuring out!" and she says, "I know weights." 6/27

Emily has been waiting all month to start her week at the DU Ritchie Center day camp. Today is her first day AND her first day of swim lessons! She will have a lesson every morning this week. I stayed through the lesson and Emily did great. It was a cold pool & 4 feet deep at the "shallow" end but Em was a trooper and tried everything her teachers asked her to. 6/28

Sarah's first day in Purple Coyotes! She has been visiting the classroom over the last few weeks and so already knows her teachers Miss Carrie, Miss Jen, and Mr. Soren. 6/1

At pick up time Sarah is whiney because I am trying to urge a potty break before we go home. Carrie looks down and says, "Sarah! I don't think I've heard you cry--ever!" 6/1

Sarah has a LONG conversation with Grandma Zymboly on the phone! She told her all about being a Purple Coyote, going to be a firefighter and a skateboarder when she grows up, having two guinea pigs in her classroom and feeding them carrots.... 6/2

Sarah told Miss Carrie today that she doesn't like her curls when she gets up in the mornings! We will get Sarah a trim with Miss Kari before our trip. 6/3

Daddy brings the girls to the library for our Summer Reading Kickoff Party! They jump in a bouncy castle, get tattoos, play a few games, and pick up their reading records. Mommy doesn't see them very much! 6/5

Bill tries to tuck Sarah in for a nap after their busy morning, but Sarah comes immediately out of the room and announces, "This leg told me to get up." Bill replies, "We don't listen to that leg about naps!" 6/5

We spend the morning at the Duffs' for a visit before our trip. 6/7

Sarah's first haircut! She doesn't really need one, but since Emily does, Sarah wants one too! Miss Kari asks me how much to cut off and I hold up my fingers only a tiny bit apart. She told Emily, "Don't worry, it won't hurt." Sarah has fun sitting in the salon chair and pretending with Miss Kari that the monsters on her cape are "eating" the hair that falls on them. She shows off her haircut to everyone for the next month! 6/7

We leave on our trip for Florida! 6/9

At the Magic Kingdom, Sarah is transfixed by a show at the castle. She sits on Mommy's shoulders and watches the whole thing, even in the hot sun! She is a little nervous when the villians come out, but is very pleased with the happy ending. Other hits today are the Dumbo ride, meeting Cinderella, playing in the squirting water at Mickey's boat, and "navigating" for Mommy during the Indy car ride. 6/10

Sarah loves our jeep ride at the Animal Kingdom and keeps her camera ready to take pictures! 6/11

We have a relaxing week with Grammy and Grandpa. We meet some friends, spend an hour at the pool, visit Silver Springs and ride the glass bottom boats (in the middle of one ride, Sarah suddenly announces, "My big girl bed misses me.") We went bowling, too. Sarah would give the bowling ball a kiss before she pushed it (something she saw on the Nick GAS channel!) and then immediately start jumping up and down with excitement while the ball VERY slowly made its way to the pins!

We also drove to a Gulf-side beach one morning and spent some time at a small state park that had manatees. It was hard coming home! 6/18

Sarah is a big cousin again! Troy Joshua is born today to Aunt Amy and Uncle John! 6/20

The girls spend Father's Day with their Daddy since I have to work. They have made cards and will give him Eric Carle's new book "Mister Seahorse" as soon as I can find my secret hiding place!! 6/20

Sarah takes my keys from the table, then tells me, "I have your keys. I'm going to put them by the front door so you don't forget them!" 6/23
