Each time we have
Emily read something to us, we hear new words that she knows by sight
and doesn't have to sound out. She is getting good at this! 3/2
Mommy goes on a trip to Chicago! The
girls have a great time with Daddy. He takes them to Cati's 3rd birthday
party Friday night & they also go out for Saturday morning breakfast
pancakes the next day! 3/4-7
Emily's "family" birthday party
was a fun evening. Christine, Liz, Susan, Tim, and Nigel all came over
for a PB&J and Krispy Kreme doughnut dinner, with apple and cherry
pie for dessert, and a ton of cool presents. Em is SIX now! 3/9
It's Daddy's turn to be gone! At dinner time we watch "Stars on
Ice." The girls were extremely impressed and kept asking me, "Did
you see that, Mommy?" Afterwards they "skate" around the
kitchen floor in their socks, holding hands. 3/12
We all go out to dinner at Bennigan's, and Em chooses a Junior Garden
Salad with chicken for her dinner. She eats it all up, lettuce, veggies,
chicken, and all! 3/04
Em is so sweetly encouraging of Sarah and genuinely excited for her as
Sarah comes into the home stretch of potty training. Em will say, "Good
job, Sarah!" and "You're doing great!" 3/04
Em is a fantastic flower girl again!
She and Ashlea (Michelle's 8 year old niece) were both flower girls and
wore matching dresses. They walked very carefully down the aisle next
to each other, keeping shoulder to shoulder and dropping flower petals
down. At the reception, Emily danced and danced all night! 3/13
Emily was talking to Sarah in the car about a scrape on her elbow. She
told Sarah she took off the Band-aid. Sarah was confused, and Em explained,
"The boo-boo's on my elbow and the Band-aid's in the trash."
Then, hearing the rhythm of the sentence, she said, "I just made
a song!" 3/19
I went with the kindergarten classes today on their field trip to 4
Mile Historic Park. This was the wrap-up to their long Colorado history
study. The kids got to sit in a school house and say, "Yes, Ma'am"
to the teacher, do a square dance in a "barn," walk on stilts
and have a sack race, sit in a full-size teepee, draw water out of a well
and wash clothes on a washboard, and beat rugs with a beater and feed
real chickens! Whew!! Em said her favorite part was meeting the real goat
in his pen. (She also got a big kick out of riding the bus!) 3/19
We got the call that Em is in soccer! She is on a team with 3 girls from
kindergarten, Hi'ilei, Amanda, and Claire. Bill took our girls out and
bought them each a soccer ball, and got Em some shin pads. She is so excited
to start! 3/20
Playing Connect 4 with me, Emily observes, "If it was Connect 1,
then the first person to go would win!" 3/28
It's been so rainy, Bill wanted to get Em some real soccer shoes to wear
for her games in case the grass is slippery when she plays. They bought
the smallest size there was, and when he came home and showed them to
me he said, "Are these not the cutest cleats in the universe?"
Em announces, "Only fairies can kiss their elbows." 3/31

After her nap at school today,
Sarah told Miss Susan, "I'm ready for big girl underwear, and you
better tell my mommy!" Yay! So when we came home Sarah wore training
underpants for a few hours before bed with no accidents. The next morning,
Sarah announced she was going to wear big girl underwear to school. We
put her underwear, not knowing what would happen, but Sarah knew what
she was doing--she has worn underwear every day for several days now with
NO accidents--even during or after her naps. She is a superstar, and VERY
proud of herself! 3/1-7
Sarah likes to sing "Zipadeedoodah." 3/04
Sarah tells me at pick-up time that she has a surprise in her pocket for
later. After we are home for awhile, she goes to her coat and says, "It's
time for my surprise!" She reaches into her pocket and pulls out
a snowball! She says, "It's smaller!" Daddy says, "Is this
why your pants were all wet?" 3/1
Mommy goes on a trip to Chicago! The girls have a great time with Daddy.
He takes them to Cati's 3rd birthday party Friday night & they also
go out for Saturday morning breakfast pancakes the next day! 3/4-7
Sarah enjoys herself at Emily's birthday
party. Emily lets Sarah and Nigel choose which present she should
open next, and lets them help her with the wrapping paper! 3/9
It's Daddy's turn to be gone! At dinner time we watch "Stars on Ice."
The girls were extremely impressed and kept asking me, "Did you see
that, Mommy?" Afterwards they "skate" around the kitchen
floor in their socks, holding hands. 3/12
Sarah notices, "'Sneak' and 'Sarah' start with the same letter!"
3/12
I played a game of Crazy 8s with Sarah today. She looked so carefully
at her cards to see which ones would match in color or number. When we
ran out, she picked up the discard pile and said, "I will shupple
them!" For the very most part she can make her own plays and make
the correct matches! 3/14
Daddy stood up for Uncle Todd and Emily was a flower girl, so Sarah and
I kept each other company while we waited for the ceremony to start. Sarah
started naming a series of letters and asking me what they spelled. Sometimes
I would have to say, "It doesn't spell anything." She would
answer, "If you sound it out, what does it say?" She has heard
Emily and I have lots of these exchanges and has picked right up on it!
3/13
Sarah was a trouper during the long day at Todd
and Michelle's wedding. Todd told us later that one of the clearest
memories he has of the day was of Sarah running (not dancing, just flat-out
running) around the edge of the dance floor, her arms extended like airplane
wings, oblivious to anything else going on around her! 3/13
No school today for Sarah, and I have to work till 1pm. Sarah and Daddy
head to the zoo for a morning together! 3/18
Today in the car we were listening to "Peter Paul and Mommy."
During "Day Is Done," Sarah comments, "There are two songs
that say 'sorrow,' this one and Puff the Magic Dragon!" What a great
noticer! 3/19
Sarah is doing so well at potty training herself, it doesn't matter if
she wears training underwear or regular panties--she has so few accidents!
3/20
Sarah is patiently listening to Emily read Dick and Jane for her bedtime
stories this week. Sometimes when Emily is sounding out a word, Sarah
"hears" what it is before Emily does and pipes up with it! I'm
not sure how Em feels about this, but it makes me sure Sarah will be a
great reader, too! 3/20
I spent the morning today in Sarah's classroom. It's always so much fun.
Today I helped the kids use eyedroppers to drop ink on coffee filters.
At circle time, Sarah likes to say, "This is my mommy!" even
though all the kids know who I am by now! 3/23
Sarah says, "When I'm a mom, can I have a thousand kids?" 3/28
So far, Sarah, unlike Emily, seems content to lie awake in her own bed
in the mornings until Daddy or I come to get her up. (Em comes right into
the big bed for a snuggle.) Sometimes when I go in to Sarah, she says,
"5 more minutes, Mommy." I don't know where she gets that idea!!
